Speaking and Facilitation

I am available for speaking engagements and workshop facilitation related to the following topics:

Community Archives 101
This workshop offers insights into the unique world of community archives.  It discusses the logistics of establishing a community archive, how to build community support, and growing archival capacity within existing community organizations.  Through an exploration of the success and challenges of community archives attendees will learn how to build successful long-term community engagement and best practices for community work. Participants will leave with resources, tips, and practical strategies they can apply to their individual community settings.  This workshop works best as a three hour session, however length is flexible based on the size and experience of the group.

Gender in the Workplace Workshops
I provide a range of presentations focused on transgender inclusion, supporting gender diversity in the workplace, trans inclusion in archival practice, and policy development. This content is available as keynotes, webinars, presentations, and workshops. Presentations are 45min to 1 hour. Workshops can be half day or full day.

Building Outreach and Engagement in GLAM Organizations
Effective outreach and engagement takes work and a whole lot of effort.  Interested in increasing community outreach but not sure where to start? This is the talk for you. This workshop demystifies some of the common barriers to engagement within the GLAM sector.  It provides concrete advice on how to build long and short term engagement strategies.  Participants will leave with an event organization toolkit, tips on how to manage engagement workloads, and how to best prioritize engagement techniques.  This content can be delivered as a half-day hands-on workshop or as a shorter 45-60 minute talk.

Getting Started with Online Engagement
With so many social media tools and online promotion options for GLAM organizations it is sometimes hard to know where to start.  This workshop is designed for staff at small to medium size heritage organizations looking to increase their online presence and improve their digital engagement strategies.  Participants will learn about branding and social media management techniques.  We’ll also cover tips and tricks to get the most impact on a tight budget with limited staff time. Workshop participants will leave with a social media and engagement action plan for promoting their organization online.

Indigenous Content in Collections
This workshop is ideal for archives or heritage organizations which hold material in their collections by or about Indigenous communities. As organizations begin to understand the implications of holding Indigenous material within the bounds of Western institutions it is essential that staff and leadership teams consider best practices, Indigenous Intellectual Property Rights, and consider access implications. In this workshop participants will learn about the TRC Calls to Action, UNDRIP, and OCAP principals and how they directly apply to archival and cultural heritage work.  Additionally, participants will leave with concrete first steps to doing The Work and shifting the conversation within their organization. This session is available as a half-day workshop or as a 45-60 minute talk.
